| Author Note: This is a Mary-Sue LOTR fanfiction. I guess I had originally started posting the chapters during the summer of 2004 if not earlier, but I didn’t like where the story was going or what I had done with it. So I took it down, with the intent of redoing the chapters and continuing on. So I’ve started to redo the chapters. I think they need a lot of work. And some of the chapters need a lot more editing than others. With the names: Maria's name, the 'Mari' part is pronounced like that in 'Mario' but with an 'ah' sound at the end. The nickname is 'Mari' and not 'Mary' afterall. Disclaimer: I don’t own Lord of the Rings or Lord of the Rings characters. However, the original character/Mary-Sues are mine, along with the story tied in with the Sues.
Blood rains from the cloudy web on the broad loom of slaughter. The web of man grey as armor is now being woven; The Valkyries will cross it with a crimson weft. The Valkyries go weaving with drawn swords. Spears will shatter shields will splinter, Swords will gnaw like wolves through armor. It is horrible now to look around As a blood-red cloud darkens the sky. The heavens are stained with the blood of men, As the Valyries sing their song. -Darraðarljóð Chapter 1: Summer Vacation "Ah! Finally, I'm done with finals! I thought that I was gonna die!" A brunette girl yawned to herself as she stretched her arms over her head, plopping down onto the brown and maroon, upholstered couch in front of the television. ‘Now, time for TV!’ she thought happily. Picking up one of the three black remotes sitting on the coffee table in between her and the television, she hummed casually as she flipped through the channels. ‘There are more channels here, but nothing seems to be on,’ she idly thought, still channel surfing three minutes later. | Katie has been found by another girl (Eva) who is also lost in the woods. Just when Katie thought they had finally found someone to rescue them from the deciduous forest, they find themselves hostages of two tall, attractive, and identical looking men dressed in strange clothing and armed with old-fashioned weapons. What will happen next? Notes: Lines in italics are internal dialog. Disclaimer: I don’t own The Lord of the Rings or any other part of Tolkien's works.
“A question that sometimes drives me hazy: am I or are the others crazy?” -Albert Einstein Chapter 4: Dreams The woods surrounding the little, brown-haired girl were untamed and seemed untouched by human hands. The young girl, no older than nine, nervously scanned her surroundings. Trees and foliage as far as the eye could see. It was dark, the trees blocking out most of the sunlight. The little brunette felt smothered by the towering trees and a pungent odor that she couldn’t identify. The plants were full of life with various shades of green. The dreamlike forest seemed to stretch on forever in all directions. ( Read more... )

| Author note: So far Katie has been introduced. In the last chapter Katie went with her friends on a little trip, got in a fight with Catherine while they were hiking, and decided to go find her own fun. However, she's managed to get lost in the woods, in the rain, and then pass out. What a lucky girl. Disclaimer: I don’t own The Lord of the Rings or any other part of Tolkien's works.

“When you're safe at home you wish you were having an adventure; When you're having an adventure you wish you were safe at home.” – Thornton Wilder
Chapter 3: Rescue MeThe breaks in the vibrant tree foliage revealed parts of a clear sky. Due to the amount of daylight, it was either earlier morning or late afternoon. Tall, grand trees with bright red, orange, and yellow leaves loomed over the girl’s fallen form. Katie was lying unconscious on the same side that she had fallen on during the rainstorm. The hiking bag had remained on her back. The heavy-set girl’s hair was tangled and wet with traces of mud. Her clothing was soaked and dirty. However, save for the earth directly under the girl, the ground was blanketed in dried, brown and rust-colored leaves. ( Read more... )

| Middle-Earth, anachronism, and continuityAnarchronism refers to old and obsolete items. For example, using a medieval crossbow over a gun or using a feather-and-ink pen and parchments instead of a pencil and paper in the 21st century. Prochronism refers to things (or sayings, opinions, values, etc) that are out of place, because they shouldn’t exist yet. For example, wrist watches existing during the dark ages or push-up bras in China during the Shang Dynasty (1600-1046 BC). And, parachronism refers to anything that seems out place concerning time period. This can be obsolete things, ideas, slang, sayings, style of speech, concepts, beliefs, etc. In Tolkien’s stories of Middle-Earth, there are references to things and concepts that shouldn’t exist yet. The Lord of the Rings is supposed to take place around four thousand years ago; however, Hobbits have umbrellas, coffee, spectacles (maybe?), tobacco, clocks, and mantelpieces. The dragon firework at Bilbo’s birthday party was said to sound like a train. And some of the elements make the settings seem similar to a romanticized medieval period (probably supposed to be around the High Middle Ages in Europe from around 1000-1200). Seems kind of out of place, right? It could be that you’re supposed to understand some of these out-of-place terms as just what Tolkien had used as the best equivalent in English for the sake of the readers (and to avoid wasting any extra time explaining the foreign, archaic things). Or you could believe that perhaps those things very similar to their later equivalents (like potatoes, umbrellas, and horse stirrups) did actually exist, but somehow the technology and any traces of the artifacts were lost. You can even just believe that it's a fictional story about an alternate world and not just a story from the far past. So keep this in mind when writing LOTR fanfiction. Don’t fret too much over whether or not something fits the period well enough, but be careful of speech, concepts, dress, and other objects that seem too modern for the time and place. Continuity is important. | |

| Notes: This is one of those The Lord of the Rings fanfictions where a girl is transported to Middle-Earth. Read and review. Disclaimer: I don’t own The Lord of the Rings or characters and other parts of Tolkien's works.________________________________________ __________________________________ “Stand still. The trees ahead and bushes beside you are not lost.” -David WagnerChapter 2: LostKatie woke to heavy knocking at her door and someone calling her. “Katie, Katie! It’s 8:45!” a girl shouted outside the bedroom, through the locked door. The girl that had been pounding on the door was average height, stocky built and overweight, wearing a black, short-sleeved t-shirt and blue jeans. She had short, wavy dirty-blonde hair, put back in a black bandana, covered in little white skull and crossbones. ( Read more... ) | |

| Granted Wishes, Fragmented DreamsNotes: This is rated T there is some harsh language in this chapter and there will be harsh language and violence in future chapters. However, the original characters are mine, along with whatever part of the the story tied in with my OCs that are not J. R. R. Perturbed by the presence of the group, she brought up her right hand to play with a strand of her medium-length fuchsia and black hair, causing her bracelets to lightly clang against each other on her chubby wrist, while she clutched a book that she had brought along for the wait with the other hand. And after silently disapproving of the small crowd for a couple more seconds, she went back to reading the book, picking up where she had left off. ( Read more... ) | |
